DRI

The Digital Repository of Ireland (DRI) is a four year €5.1 million project to build a robust, scalable, accessible and sustainable Trusted Digital Repository (TDR) for Irish humanities and qualitative social sciences (HSS). The partners concentrate existing national expertise and resources by bringing together leading Irish-based researchers in the HSS, library services and high-end computing. Stakeholders such as the national cultural organisations and selected industry partners also play a significant advisory and information role in the DRI’s development.

Technical Information

The Digital Media Centre (DMC) is leading the design and development of the configurable, bilingual (Gaeilge/English), multi-modal, multi-access, customisable and accessible user interfaces needed by the DRI. The DRI user interfaces will include, multi-modal rendering technologies (animated media, streaming audio and video, and interactive 3D) and client side scripting for enhanced performance and user experience.

The DRI will provide a central access point for HSS AV research materials and data gathered and held in Higher Education Institutes, cultural institutions and social science organisations across Ireland. The project will develop and implement common data and metadata standards, formats, access rights, and sets of research tools, providing services for discovering, accessing, managing, preserving and interacting with a wide variety of HSS multi-media resources. It will offer extensive on-the-ground and remote delivery of technical and user support and training to ensure widest possible access and support for graduate education.
