GRS & RIS Information Systems

The Digital Media Centre (DMC) is system developer for Research Information System (RIS), a central location to store information on all past and current research activities throughout the Dublin Institute of Technology (DIT). This reporting system will provide an easily accessible overview for researchers and other relevant users such as the Department of Research and Enterprise (DRE) and external bodies.

Challenge

The major challenge for RIS is to dramatically improve the sharing and visibility of information pertaining to DIT research activities. This had become a major issue for the DIT due to the disparate nature of research reporting along with poor internal and external communication. DMC’s solution involves a single point of entry with clear visibility as to who is responsible for moving a research project forward at any given time. It is hoped that this more efficient system will encourage early adoption by users.

Result

RIS is currently in Beta testing stage. Once launched, the DMC will provide support and consultancy to users. RIS will allow users an immediate overview of all historical and ongoing research projects and facilitate instant comparisons between projects. It is envisaged that future phases will incorporate additional features and provide integration with other systems such as Arrow@DIT, an online collection of research publications produced by researchers at DIT.  RIS can also be offered as a bespoke solution to other research institutes.
